Color Of The Fields
Liner Notes
Song Background
1. She's The One
This was recorded in LA in 2001 three weeks before I
ended up in the hospital fighting for my life.
I can't reveal who it's about, but I meant it.
2. A Lonely Man
Without You
Written in 1986 for my then future wife.
It was on my second album, "Love Is No Place To Fall."
3. So Many Places
I wrote this in 2000 with Sara Hickman in mind, though, to me,
the lyrics are more something a man would sing.
Sara thought so too and decided not to record it.
4. All That I Am
In Hawaii I sat for a week in our room while Hurricane Fabio raged outside.
I thought I might as well do something, so this was the result.
Pete Hayes did an excellent job with his harmony vocal on this.
5. She'll Say Yes
When I first started to date Tina, it seemed there were some ex-boyfriends of hers
still lurking about. So I took out on my guitar and wrote her a song,
or I guess I should say, them a song.
6. Over And Over
I think sometimes when you are younger you're more apt to fall for the wrong
person,
someone who doesn't have all the redeeming qualities you're really seeking,
but that you are still attracted to for some reason - usually for the way they
look.
This song was for such a person in my life way back when.
7. And Then It's Gone
I wrote this at three o'clock in the morning about those things that
are haunting in some way, the rain, the wind, the sound of a train.
I tried to explain that feeling but ended writing about not being able to define
it.
8. Next Summer
I wanted to write a piece of music that felt like summer, something that made you
feel warm.
I can barely make it through the dark, cold winter,
so every year when winter arrives I try to think about next summer.
9. That's How Love Is
A friend of mine was going through a terrible break up with his girlfriend
and I wrote this song for him.
10. Shake You Up
Written by Michael Tweed, a long time friend of Marc Bonilla's and myself.
Michael went to Marc Bonilla with the song and had Marc lay down all the
intrumental tracks.
They waited for me to come to LA to sing it. I did in 2001.
11. Oh My Lady
One of the very first songs I ever wrote. I must have been about 15 years old.
It sems like it's been around forever and won't go away, so I included it for this
CD.
12. If You Let Me
I know some of my friends probably wouldn't agree with me but I think
this is one of the best songs I've ever written.
I always thought the melody had a very Brian Wilson feel to it.
I also love Marc Bonilla's guitar part on it.
13. Message From John
Lennon
Yup. It's real. My friend Tom Schwarz recorded this in Philadelpia in the summer of
1976
when he had a chance meeting with John.
